Lady Cariad’s Characters:
from screen to stage
Internet phenomena and rising star of London’s comedy and improvisation circuits Cariad Lloyd will be performing her unique brand of character comedy at the Edinburgh Festival for the first time this August. Directed by Ben Wilson (Idiots of Ants) the show introduces a hilarious and affectionately drawn cast of characters: Jacque le Cock, the parkour expert and rapper, Andrew the 7-year-old stand-up, Judith the happiest cult member, Cockney Sam with his murderous tales of woe and Alison the worst magician with a BSc.
Cariad is a highly praised comic and improviser who has in part earned her reputation thanks to the internet and twitter. Her glamorous character Kitty Romford is taking youtube by storm although she’s just an ordinary dame, working at Asda, her boss won’t get off her back and she’s inner monologuing out loud again. These sketches have been selected for many film festivals including Rushes and Virgin Media Shorts and Kitty also won Cariad a place in the semi-final of Company Magazine’s Lady HaHa competition.
Alongside this cyber success she has also been treading the more traditional route, working with Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, Ken Campbell’s School of Night, Die Nasty in Canada and as a veteran of the UK’s only annual 50 hour Improvathon. With fans including Rob Brydon and the late great theatre maverick Ken Campbell she certainly has the industry’s approval and is delighted to be sharing the fun at no charge as part of the PBH’s Free Fringe.
Lady Cariad’s Characters promises a daredevil physical spectacle, sleight of hand magic and a joyful celebration of the surreal. North London’s answer to Kristen Schaal will delight and surprise audiences with her human observations and sharp banter.
‘Cariad Lloyd is very funny. Go and see her while you can still afford the ticket’
Rob Brydon.
Audiences will have multiple opportunities to witness Cariad’s talent this summer as she is also performing at the Pleasance with sketch show ‘Men of War’ with Gareth Kane (Scratch Impro), David Schaal (the Inbetweeners) and Perrier nominee Steve Harvey as well as directing and devising this year’s Edinburgh sell out Shakespeare for Breakfast at C venues.
